Information about donations: become a freedom of choice supporter!
“Dignitas – To live with dignity – To die with dignity” is a Swiss non-profit membership association committed to promoting and preserving freedom of choice, self-determination and human dignity until life’s end. One important goal of our activities is to enforce and safeguard the freedom and right of every human being to decide on the time and manner of their own end of life.
What to donate for
With your donation, you can choose to support either our general operations or our two funds established in honour of two former members of the Dignitas advisory board who helped to found our membership association in 1998 and provided excellent advice to the association’s board.
The “Manfred Kuhn Fund”:
Support for Dignitas’ International Political and Legal work
Every human being should have the possibility to end his or her life in a self-determined manner in the place where he or she lives – legally, safely and in the presence of his or her loved ones. In order to enforce this right and freedom internationally, “Dignitas – To live with dignity – To die with dignity” conducts legal cases in various countries, supports and participates in cases of third parties, participates in political consultation procedures for law amendments, advises on the development of new laws, etc.
Your donation to the “Manfred Kuhn Fund” helps us cover the costs of these activities, particularly for legal proceedings and lawyers.
Attorney-at-law Manfred Kuhn (1930-2003) was Vice President of EXIT (German Switzerland) and a close friend of Dignitas’ founder Ludwig A. Minelli. After the foundation of Dignitas, he transferred from EXIT to Dignitas and contributed decisively to establishing the association.
More information about our political and legal activities can be found on our website www.dignitas.ch.
The “Wolfgang Hopff Fund”:
Support for persons living under modest economic circumstances
Persons who have little or no financial means should also have the possibility of joining the association “Dignitas – To live with dignity – To die with dignity” and, if needed, of submitting a request for an accompanied suicide. Article 9, paragraph 6 of the articles of association of Dignitas states that members living under very modest economic circumstances may, upon request supported by evidence, be exempted, partially or fully, from paying the one-off joining fee and/or the annual membership as well as additional membership contributions.
Your donation to the “Wolfgang Hopff Fund” helps Dignitas to grant reductions and exemptions of membership fees and other contributions for persons living under modest economic circumstances.
Prof. Dr. med. et phil. Wolfgang Hopff (1930-2005) was a pharmacologist at the University of Zurich. After the foundation of Dignitas he advised the board regarding the application of medication for the purpose of accompanied suicide.
